Now you can upload your own videos

Until now every clip started from a YouTube link. From today you can also start from a video file on your phone or computer.

Why we added uploads

Not every video worth clipping lives on YouTube. A recording you made with your phone, a podcast episode exported from your editor, a webinar saved on your computer or a cut you have not published yet: until now, the only way to clip any of them with ClipSprint was to put it on YouTube first.

That step is gone. You can upload the file itself and make your clip from it, in the same editor and with the same speed.

How it works

Open Create, confirm that the video is yours or that you have the rights to reuse it, and drop the file on Upload a video file, or choose it from your device. A progress bar shows the upload, and you can cancel it at any time.

The file travels straight from your browser to our storage, without passing through our web servers, so it uploads at the speed of your connection. As soon as it arrives we check that it really is a video and prepare it for the editor. MP4 and MOV files in H.264, the format most phones and editors use, open almost at once; other formats are converted first. Vertical videos recorded on a phone are turned upright on the way.

From there everything works as it does with a link: slide the clip to your moment, frame it, export it and download the MP4.

What you can upload

MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG and 3GP files. On the Free plan each video can be up to 10 minutes long and 1.5 GB, and you can export 10 clips a month in vertical 9:16 at up to 720p, with the ClipSprint watermark.

If your video is longer than that, trim it in your editor first and upload the part you want to clip.

Only video, and only yours

Uploads are for video files and nothing else. The file picker only offers videos, and every file is checked again on our side: anything that is not a readable video, such as an image or an audio file renamed to look like one, is refused and deleted.

Like the videos you load from a link, an uploaded video is stored privately for your account and deleted after 7 days without being opened (30 on Starter, 90 on Pro and Max). The clips you export stay until you delete them.
