Turn your own video file into Shorts

Not every video lives on YouTube. A recording from your phone, a podcast exported from your editor or a webinar saved on your computer can become a vertical clip too: upload the file, pick the moment and download the clip.

How to do it

  1. Upload the file

In Create, confirm the video is yours and drop the file on Upload a video file, or choose it from your device.

  2. Let it open

The file goes straight to our storage. It is checked and prepared, then it opens in the editor, usually within seconds.

  3. Choose the moment

Slide the clip along the timeline and set its length, from 10 seconds to 1 minute on Free or up to 3 minutes on paid plans.

  4. Frame it and export

Drag the frame over what matters, or keep the whole picture over a blurred or black background, and download the MP4.

Which files work

MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG and 3GP. That covers what phones, cameras, screen recorders and video editors export. On the Free plan a video can be up to 10 minutes long and 1.5 GB.

What happens to your file

Your browser sends the file directly to our storage, so it uploads at the speed of your connection. We then check that it really is a video and prepare it for the editor: H.264 MP4 and MOV files open almost at once, other formats are converted first. A vertical video recorded on a phone is turned upright on the way.

Only video files

The file picker only offers video files, and every upload is checked again on our side. Anything that is not a readable video, such as an image or an audio file renamed to look like one, is refused and deleted.

Tips for the fastest result

Upload the original file rather than a screen recording of it, and prefer MP4 when your editor gives you the choice: it skips the conversion step. If a video is longer than your plan allows, trim it in your editor first and upload the part you need.

Questions

What is the largest file I can upload?

On the Free plan, videos of up to 10 minutes and 1.5 GB. The limits for your account are listed in Settings.

Can I upload a vertical video from my phone?

Yes. Phones often store vertical videos turned on their side; ClipSprint turns them upright before they reach the editor.

Is my video made public?

No. It is stored privately for your account, it is deleted after 7 days without being opened (30 on Starter, 90 on Pro and Max), and only the clips you export stay until you delete them.

Why was my file refused?

Usually because it is not a video ClipSprint can read, or because it is longer or larger than your plan allows. The message in the editor says which.
